I love flowers! They have an ethereal beauty that draws my eyes every time. I love wild flowers most of all- yes the flowers of weeds. No one planted them, no thought or arrangement went into their being at their location, and no one considered the aesthetics or colour combinations. No one did any research into their genetic profile neither have they been carefully bred from generation to generation like the “commercial” flowers.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns and yet your heavenly father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field which is here today and tomorrow is throw into the fire, will he not much more clothe you- you of little faith”- Matt 6:25-30.
There’s nothing more to add! I can drop my mic right here and walk away, end this post without adding a word more. Isn’t it obvious why this Jesus is the ultimate BAE, see how he made his message so simple and easy to grasp!
However there’s a slight misconception that people have about this instruction, they see it as an excuse, even as a license to be lazy. He says worry not, he did not say work not or plan not, worrying and planning are very different things.
Do you know that you can worry about tomorrow and not plan for tomorrow? Do you know that you can be so consumed with worry that you fail to plan? Worrying saps so much energy and achieves nothing! Why worry when you can use that energy for something else? You can plan and work with half of the energy that you’d use to worry and most importantly it is much better for your mental health if you do not worry.
Still think Jesus doesn’t want you to plan? Luke 14: 26-33 has your answer.
If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. 28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— 29 lest, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30 saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’? 31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.
Even being a follower of Christ requires careful thought and planning!
