Lyrically- Stay Young.

So yesterday, I was at the Tafewa Balawe Square for an interdenominational Christian programme organised by the publishers of Our Daily Manna. I love TBS, I have written about it on this blog a couple of times. Lemme go search for the links but I took a couple of photos yesterday that I’ll share here.

With my aunt.

It was an all night programme, there was plenty singing, dancing and praying and it was a little tiring. However there was a man who caught my eye, he had a full head of gray hair and you could tell he was at least in his seventies but the man danced like David. During one of the praise sessions, he was dancing and walking up and down the path. A group of women asked his age and he told them he was seventy six, I felt pain lance through me as I remembered my recently deceased grandmother who died at seventy six after being stuck in a wheelchair for nearly five years.

However that feeling passed and I couldn’t stop watching him, I admired his energy and joy of life (I think the French expression Joie de vivre sounds better). It reminded me of Don Williams beautiful song Stay Young and it hit me that I haven’t done a lyrics post in a long time. So here goes my first lyrics post of the year.

“Stay Young”
Oh, don’t you lose that light in your eyes
You’re never too old to love, never too late to try
When somebody needs you
Give ’em all you can give
When you’re livin’ to love and a lovin’ to live.

[Chorus:]
Stay young keep your wheels in motion
You’ve got everything that you need
Stay young with your rock n’ rollin’
All the best things in life for free.

[Instrumental]
Oh, don’t you feel like playin’ the fool
Just step out a line and break all the rules
Don’t you let them tell you, It’s not for you
Don’t go growin’ old, before you’re due.

[Chorus:]
Stay young keep your wheels in motion
You’ve got everything that you need
Stay young with your rock n’ rollin’
All the best things in life for free.
[Instrumental]

[Chorus:]
Stay young keep your wheels in motion
You’ve got everything that you need
Stay young with your rock n’ rollin’
All the best things in life for free…

If only we could all stay young Mami… But we could – our hearts. We may grow old, but can still stay young at heart.
I love that song by Don Williams.

  2. I tap into this kind of special grace ooo. Wow!! Not like us young guys forming big boy in God presence. May God help us youngsters.

I will have joined him o if I was there, I do rather misbehave in my father house than in a club house.

Funny enough I’m just about to listen to this song. Lord help me, I have been so out of sync with the entertainment world for a few years now.

      1. I actually hated Jim Reeves at a point in my life, every morning my dad would play his songs and sing along. His songs sound so sad! Talk about a depressing way to start your day, smh!
Yes darling, Long live the Papas and Mamas (although I don’t think they like being called Papa/Mama)

      2. Hehehehehehe. . . I understand! The baritone that comes with Jim Reeves voice coupled with his lyrics at times could make one feel that way especially that song ‘This World is not my home’ and the instrumentals too they have a way of sounding not too dynamic. . . nonetheless he was a great one! Still is.
