I saw this picture on Facebook yesterday and it made me a little excited, I was smiling and thinking “this should be my new motto”. The message made plenty sense to me at the time.
However, the clause “while we were yet sinners” flashed in my mind. Romans 5 vs 8 states “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Even when we knew him not, despised and reviled him; God sent his only begotten child to die for us. Yes he climbed fence for us even when we did not cross gutter for him.
In John chapter 15 from verses 9 – 17, Christ asked us to love others as he has loved us. That means “flying” fence for those who wouldn’t spit on us if we were burning how much more even trying to put out the fire.
It’s tough to love someone who hates you, sometimes it seems impossible but if we remember that Christ did it for us first, it will be easier to practice. God knows we need to learn to love one another in Nigeria.
